La mayor parte de mis trabajos derivan del uso de una paleta de colores bastante diversa. En “La puerta azul”, sin embargo, empleo la espátula para hacer un estudio de un tema aparentemente simple y bastante homogéneo en términos comparativos: una pared blanca con una puerta azul, en el pueblo de Las Negras (Parque Natural del Cabo de Gata). Por una parte, los colores usados son tres solamente (azul ultramar, carmín de garanza y blanco); por otra parte, los tonos pastel de la pared (aunque derivan de una delicada combinación de los tres colores en proporciones variables) cubren las tres cuartas partes del lienzo. De hecho, aunque el contraste generado por el patrón de luces y sombras representa el mensaje principal, el reto personal fue conseguir la luz que resbala sobre la pared blanca: tonos medios cálidos que sirven de fondo para el azul casi puro de la puerta.

Siempre el Mediterráneo…

Most of my previous works derive from a rather diverse palette of colors. However, in “The blue door” I use my couple of knives to play with an apparently simple and homogeneous subject, a white wall with a blue door, found in a marine village (Las Negras) in the Natural Park of Cape of Gata (SE Spain). In this context, “homogeneity” refers to both palette diversity and canvas surface dominance of a particular color. This painting is done basically with three colors: ultramarine deep blue, white and carmine. On the other side, the “wall color” (although being a delicate combination with varying proportions of the three colors) covers 3/4 parts of the canvas.Although light contrast seems to be the main message, the challenge for me was to paint slipping light over the white wall. Warm, half tones that serve as background for the almost pure ultramar blue of the door.

Always the Mediterranean…

Esta panorámica es la que se puede disfrutar desde la terraza de la Hospedería de Los Palmitos (Parque Natural del Cabo de Gata, Almería). En el primer plano, la huerta y los bancales de olivos, en el pueblecito de El Pozo de los Frailes. Al fondo, el pueblo de San José, ya a orillas del Mediterráneo. No hay ninguna pretensión especial en esta composición, salvo la de recordar un lugar y unas gentes con las que suelo pasar breves pero muy agradables temporadas.

Las imágenes de detalle muestran claramente el contraste entre el trabajo general de espátula y el uso de pincel para el caserío.

This panoramic view is what you can enjoy from the terrace of the Hospedería Los Palmitos (Natural Park of Cape of Gata). At the foreground, the truck farm and olive terraces in the small village El Pozo de los Frailes. In the background, the village of San José facing the Mediterranean. There is no any particular aim with this composition except remembering a nice place and some friendly people.

Close up images show clearly the contrast between the general knife strokes and the brush, this being applied to the small village houses.
