Callejeando en Capileira (Las Alpujarras)-1
Óleo a espátula sobre lienzo
46 x 38 cm
¡Feliz Navidad!

Wandering Capileira (Las Alpujarras)-1
Oil with knife on canvas
46 x 38 cm
The region of Las Alpujarras was opened to the world by the British writer Gerald Brenan, who came here to live and wrote his famous “South from Granada” (1957). Its valleys and villages are an endless source of inspiration for artists (painters, writers,…) who now are a typical element of the human landscape. With this street of Capileira (a village just below the snow of Sierra Nevada) I want to start a series of paintings dedicated to this unique environmental and architectural environment.
Taking out the sky, my intention was to emphasize the whiteness of the walls against the dark side of mountains at the other side of the valley. The typical “alpujarreña” chimney remarks the identity of this particular rural architecture.
Happy Christmas!
Jaime
