Entre pinceles y espátulas / between brushes and knives

Aquellos de ustedes que hayan visitado este blog sabrán que mi técnica se basa fundamentalmente en el uso de espátula. Durante estos últimos meses he invertido bastante tiempo estudiando la técnica al pincel de diferentes pintores actuales y me gustaría mostrar los resultados de un ensayo de pintura mezclando pinceles y espátulas. El proceso que he seguido es pintar un cuadro a pincel para posteriormente añadir toques de espátula.

2) La pintura a pincel, con indicación de los primeros golpes de espátula

3) Una serie de detalles de la pintura a pincel

Está claro que existe el riesgo de echar a perder (o sobre-elaborar) una pintura que podría considerar terminada con la técnica de pincel, así que espero pararme a tiempo.

Those of you who have followed my posts surely know that I was absolutely concentrated in working with knives, independently of the subject. During these last months I have been studying the brush stroke of some artists. Now I would like to share with you the results of some tests of my ability to combine brushes and knives. The goal was to paint a subject only with brushes and then try to complete (improve?) it with knives.

Here I include:

I assume that there is the risk of overworking or simply destroy a painting already finished, so I’ll try to stop the knife treatment before that occurs.

Improving Paintmap: the value of your criticisms

“Paintmap is just beginning to fill our World with images about how painters perceive their environment. We are concerned with environment in a wide sense: landscapes, seascapes, urbanscapes or any piece of our natural and human heritage that is perceived by the painter as an artistic subject. Between the physical reality and its artistic manifestation there are the artist’s interpretation and feelings. Paintmap tries to relate both the physical and the artistic views of our environment.

Launching such a site is not an easy task. The cooperation of artists and the criticisms from web experts are both fundamental steps in improving the site. During our pre-blog period we had the invaluable help of Micaiah Hardison (http://www.micaiah.net) who was awarded “tester of the month” by Paintmap. More recently, Vivien Blackburn (http://vivienblackburn.com) has written about her experience in Paintmap encouraging people to visit it (http://vivienb.blogspot.com/2008/05/paintmap-my-images-online-with-google.html) (saturday, May 24) and we also want to express our gratitude to her. Our first blog-contributor, Katherine Tyrrell has presented Paintmap in her blog (http://makingamark.blogspot.com) (sunday, May 25) and made extensive comments here, which surely will be taken into account by the technical and marketing team (which is not certainly my role) of Paintmap.

Paintmap: Nuevo espacio para paisajistas / Paintmap: New site for landscape painters

Todos los que disfrutamos pintando paisajes (naturaleza, paisaje rural o urbano, marinas, etc) podemos ahora exhibir nuestros trabajos mostrando, al mismo tiempo, el punto o área geográfica del tema pintado. El nuevo sitio web http://paintmap.com permite localizar físicamente el tema pintado por otros y aprender acerca de la actividad artística en una zona determinada. Por otra parte, Paitmap permite a los usuarios de Google Earth complementar la información geográfica y fotográfica acerca de una región con las descripciones artísticas proporcionadas por los usuarios. Finalmente, no es menos importante la idea de capturar el patrimonio paisajístico, cultural y humano a través de la visión artística de los usuarios como un registro para futuras generaciones.

El usuario registrado (gratuitamente) adquiere un subdominio que permite visualizar el conjunto de sus obras cargadas en un entorno geográfico tan preciso como el usuario decida o el tema lo permita. A modo de ejemplo podeis pinchar sobre las siguientes direcciones:

All we that enjoy painting landscapes, seascapes, urbanscapes, etc can now show our work together with the physical location of the subject painted. The new web site http://paintmap.com is a geolocation-oriented painting sharing website with the following goals: on one hand, it allows painters all around the World to locate physically the subject painted by others and learn about the artistic activity at a given area. On the other hand, Paintmap allows Google Earth users to complement the physical and photographic knowledge of a given area with the artistic descriptions provided by users. In addition to this, Paintmap will contribute to the capture of our nature and human heritage through the artistic work of users as a record for future generations.
