“Por la Alameda” (Accésit, III Premio de Pintura “Universidad de Málaga”)
Por diferentes razones profesionales y familiares, este blog ha estado inactivo (por mi parte) durante los últimos meses. Qué mejor forma de retomar la actividad que mostrando un cuadro que ha conseguido un accésit en el III Premio de Pintura “Universidad de Málaga”:
“Por la Alameda”

Óleo a espátula y pincel sobre lienzo
Este es el lienzo de mayor tamaño entre los que he usado hasta el momento. El tema es una escena urbana en La Alameda de Málaga (puede verse su ubicación exacta en http://www.paintmap.com/?item=1224) durante una tarde veraniega. Gente cruzando la calle, el kiosko de los helados, los grandes árboles que la adornan…Curiosamente, a pesar de denominarse esta avenida como “Alameda”, los árboles no son álamos sino ficus plantados en os años 20 del pasado siglo.
He usado pincel para el fondo de fachadas de edificios y para los tonos de piel de las gentes. El resto del tema ha sido trabajado a espátula, la herramienta protagonista en mi trabajo. Para ver el detalle de los toques de pincel y espátula, añado una serie de imágenes de aproximación que, como siempre, espero que sean útiles.
También presento algunas fotografías de la galería de arte de la Universidad de Málaga, donde se celebró la exposición de las obras seleccionadas y premiadas. Tengo que decir que todas ellas, excepto la mía, pertenecían a estudiantes de Bellas Artes. Esta galería está situada en los sótanos del edificio del Rectorado (antiguo edificio de Correos de Málaga), formando un conjunto con los restos de la muralla fenicia de la Málaga antigua (siglos IV y III a.c.). Es un entorno pequeño pero realmente bonito e interesante.

Due to different professional and family issues, this blog was inacctive during several months. A nice way of taking up again the activity is posting this painting, awarded with an accésit in the IIIrd Painting Contest “University of Málaga”:
“Around the Alameda”

“Around the Alameda” is the largest canvas I have worked until now. It describes an urban scene during a summer afternoon in one of the main streets of the city (Málaga, Spain) (You can see the precise location at http://www.paintmap.com/?item=1224) . Curiously, although its name is “Alameda”, the large trees that cover it are not “álamos” (poplars) but Ficus (indian laurel) planted during the twenties of the past century.
I have used brushes for the lighted background as well as for the skin tones of the figures. The rest of the painting was worked with knives. The attached close-up images illustrate the application of both techniques.
This painting was recently awarded with an “accesit” during the 3rd Painting Contest “University of Málaga”. I attach some pictures of the small and nice University Art Gallery where the selected paintings are now being shown (I have to say that all selected paintings except mine are the work of students from the School of Arts). The Gallery is placed underground of the Chancellor Building, attached to the old Phoenician wall (centuries IV y III a.C.) that protected the antique city of Malaka.
